Cumberland Road is now closed to eastbound motor traffic but remains open for vehicles travelling west. The traffic lights in the photo are for buses which can travel in either direction. For a short while, traffic was permitted to run in both directions but access to our area from Cumberland Basin now requires travelling down Coronation Road or going via the City Centre.
Although two-way traffic movements along Cumberland Road worked well, the Council seems to be using the New Cut subsistence work as a pretext to introduce one-way travel on Cumberland Road ahead of plans to do so as part of the Mayor’s clean-air plan.
