Prince Street History Walk

On a sunny April evening, Merchants Landing local history enthusiast Brenda Page led a group of neighbours on a walk from the Prince’s Pantry to the far end of the Centre by Electricity House. Brenda’s talk was both wide-ranging and impressive in its historical detail:

  • Did Paul McCartney name his song Eleanor Rigby after Rigby & Evens, a King Street wine and spirit shippers? Investigate.
  • Why did Samuel Pepys visit Marsh Street other than to sample one of its 19 public houses?  Investigate.
  • Which were the first Palladian houses in Bristol? Investigate.
  • What is the connection between Concorde and the end Broad Quay House plaque? Investigate.

These were just a few of many more fascinating historical details covered by Brenda in the walk. We look forward to her next guided walk.
