Bathurst Bridge closure

To allow beams for the new bridge to be lifted in place, the existing Bathurst Bridge will be closed from Friday 18th August at 7pm to Monday 21st August at 6am. Volker Laser (the contractors) have sent a Road Closure notice to some Merchants Landing residents but many are yet to receive it. Use this link to download the letter.

The following roads will be closed to motorists, pedestrians and cyclists:

    • Cumberland Road (from Gaol Ferry Bridge to Bathurst Basin roundabout)
    • Commercial Road
    • Bathurst bridge.

During the road closure:

  • Arrangements are in place to allow access for emergency services over the weekend closure.
  • Prince Street Bridge will provide the main access route in and out of Wapping Road and the residential areas and businesses that lead off it. This is a temporary arrangement in place for the weekend.
  • Traffic lights will be in place to allow traffic to take turns over Prince Street Bridge in both directions.
  • Walking and cycling routes across Prince Street Bridge will be maintained.
  • The footpath from Lower Guinea Street to Bedminster Bridge will remain open for pedestrians.

Weather permitting and subject to no unforeseen delays, the contractors expect they’ll be able to reopen the roads by the evening on Sunday 20 August.
