Startled Cat! Theatre Company will present Checkpoint by Saito Hawkins at the John Sebastian’s Lightship Theatre on Sunday July 28th. Briony Pope writes, ‘This entertaining tragi-comedy concerns the fate of those who would risk death in the hope of finding a better life. It reflects recent political events and is grounded in the dark lessons of the past.’
Saito Hawkins, a regular at Southwest Scriptwriters meetings at Bristol Old Vic, has developed several powerful scripts for stage and screen. Now she has formed Startled Cat! to take Checkpoint to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Some Merchants Landing residents and members of Cabot Cruising Club heard the script being read at a scratch night in March. Since then the company has been rehearsing on board the John Sebastian and have developed an impressive drama production. The company has hopes of gaining awards at Edinburgh and would hugely appreciate a good audience at their Fringe Preview performance in Bristol.
